Our Speakers for ATP'26

Bringing these five together in one city, over one weekend, took the better part of a year. They come from Zimbabwe, Egypt, the United States, Australia and Hong Kong, and between them they have taught, counselled and sat with hundreds of thousands of people. For two days, they are here.

Shaykh Yahya Ibrahim

Shaykh Yahya Ibrahim has spent his career teaching Islam in the West, to Muslims living in the West. He memorised the Qur’an in twenty months at the age of sixteen, and holds an ijazah in proficiency carrying the traditional instruction to teach, along with ijazahs from scholars in Egypt, the Hijaz and South East Asia. He serves as Muslim Chaplain at Curtin University and the University of Western Australia, and as Head of Islamic Studies at Langford Islamic College in Perth. He is an instructor with AlMaghrib Institute and AlKauthar Institute, teaching hadith, fiqh and the Qur’anic sciences, and sits on the Human Research Ethics Committee at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. In recognition of his community work he received the West Australian Multicultural Community Service Award for Individual Excellence.

Dr Waleed Basyouni

Shaykh Dr Waleed Basyouni is President of AlMaghrib Institute and one of the most respected scholarly voices in the Western Muslim world. He holds a Bachelor’s in Islamic Sciences and a Master’s in Islamic Theology, World Religions and Modern Religious Sects from Al-Imam Muhammad ibn Saud University in Riyadh, along with a Doctorate in Theology. He holds ijazahs in Qur’anic recitation and in several books of hadith, and studied under some of the great scholars of the age, including Shaykh Abdul-Aziz ibn Baz and Shaykh Abdul-Razzaq Afify. He serves on the Fatwa and Research Committee of the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America, is a member of the North American Imam Federation, and is Imam of the Clear Lake Islamic Center in Houston, Texas. His specialisation in theology, comparative religion and contested questions makes him uniquely suited to this year’s theme.

Dr Muhammed Salah

Dr Muhammed Salah is one of the most recognisable faces in English-language Islamic broadcasting. He holds a PhD in Comparative Fiqh and a Bachelor’s degree in Sharia and Islamic Law from Al-Azhar University in Cairo, earned alongside a parallel degree in pharmacology. As Director of Huda TV, he has helped bring classical Islamic scholarship to a global audience, with more than 2,000 hours of live and recorded broadcasting in both English and Arabic. He has taught at Al-Azhar University, Mishkah University, Knowledge International University and the London Open College. His long-running fatwa and Q&A programmes have made him a scholar millions of Muslims turn to first when a question has no easy answer, which is exactly why he belongs on this stage.

Shaykh Wael Ibrahim

Shaykh Wael Ibrahim is the founder of the Serving Islam Team and Aware Academy, an international speaker, and the author of several best-selling books. Based in Hong Kong, he works at the intersection of Islamic knowledge and personal development, with a particular focus on addiction recovery and marriage counselling. As a counsellor, he has spent years sitting with people at their most difficult moments: those fighting addictions, those trying to hold a marriage together, those wanting to change and not knowing where to begin. He delivers workshops and seminars worldwide, pairing practical strategies with spiritual guidance rooted in an Islamic framework. His approach is unhurried and non-judgemental, and his subject matter is precisely the territory this year’s theme was built around.

Mufti Ismail Menk

Mufti Ismail Menk is one of the most widely followed Islamic scholars in the world today. Born in Harare, Zimbabwe, he began his studies with his father, memorising the Qur’an and learning Arabic, before studying jurisprudence and Sharia at the Islamic University of Madinah and completing postgraduate specialisation in Hanafi fiqh at Darul Uloom Kantharia in Gujarat, India. He heads the fatwa department for the Council of Islamic Scholars of Zimbabwe. Mufti Menk has been named among The 500 Most Influential Muslims every year since 2010, and reaches millions through his Motivational Moments series and a YouTube following of over six million. He is known for a rare gift: taking the heaviest questions a person can carry and answering them with warmth, humour and directness.
